Thomas O’Neil “Pops” Butler was the first born of two sons to Handy and Mary Malissa (Daniels) Butler. Thomas was born in Loris, South Carolina March 1, 1955. The family moved to Overtown Miami, Florida where Thomas grew into manhood.
In later years, Thomas became affectionately known, nationwide, as “Pops” from the YouTube adventures of ‘Chris and Pops’, comedic situations set up and produced by his only son, Christian Harris.
Thomas was employed by Innercept Management Corp. for the American Airlines Arena, the home of the Miami Heat, from January 5, 2005 until March 2020. Thomas was retired after having suffered a stroke and was relocated to Waco, Texas to be close to his only brother. Upon moving to Waco, Thomas took up residence at Woodland Springs Nursing Home where he made many friends and was elected to Vice President of the residents’ organization.
Thomas was well liked by staff as well as residents of Woodland Springs and his demise will certainly leave a vacancy in the lives of all those he touched with his great sense of humor and positive attitude.
Thomas leaves to mourn his passing his brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Sandra (Dorsey) Butler, his son, Christian Harris, daughter, Sandricka Harris Tumbling, three granddaughters: Suhriya A Harris, Aaliyah Harris, Kimora Harris, grandson, Kyrie Harris, and a host of cousins and friends including his good friend, Rickey Smiley.
