Mrs. Jean Bailey Harbert was born to Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bailey, January 8, 1934, in Waco, Texas. She married Ervin Snell in 1951, from which eight children were born. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Pleasant Olive Baptist church where she also served as a faithful choir member. She led a most memorable song “ Only One Look”, the lyrics went on to say, at Jesus, would turn you away from sin. She joined Pentecostal Cathedral of Faith Church of God in Christ under the leadership of then, Superintendent Arthur L. Thomas Sr. in 1978. She truly loved the Lord, and found the love of her life Deacon El Julius Harbert, after joining Living Word Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Gilbert Gillum where she became a member in the mid 80’s. She loved who we called affectionately “Daddy J” for 30 years until his death in 2023. She and Deacon Harbert became faithful members of Open Door Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Carlton D. Stimpson in 1999 where Mother Harbert served as church mother, greeter, and what most people remember most, resident hugger. Her robust hugs will be missed. Her testimony of faith and trust in the Lord will always be a part of the tapestry of our lives. Her advise for everything was to “PRAY!!!” She loved to pray.
She departed this life the morning of Monday, May 11th at Waco Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Accent care hospice team served her with gentle care and professionalism.
She leaves to mourn four daughters, Ms. Delores Snell of Ft. Worth, Ms. Darrah Perkins of Killeen, Mrs. Mary Tomlinson (Ira), and Joyce Stimpson (Carlton) both of Waco; and two sons, Mr. Milton Snell (Malinda) of San Antonio and Bishop Tyran Snell (Susie) of Gholson, Texas; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two sons, Olan (stillborn 1965) Ervin Snell Sr.(1990) and her dear husband, El Julius Harbert.
