Ms. Margarita Dozier was born to the parents Marvin Dozier and Jannie Margret Coard on the blessed day of June 7th, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York. Our mother was a forerunner for the US Army, she fought to get the uniform updated for women who are pregnant in the military. With that she was successful. Her love has touched so many hearts around the globe. She will forever be missed in the most significant way.
Our mother was a great writer, her poetry has been over microphones in many rooms. Her talent was passed down through the family. One of her poems “Easy Chair” was the epitome of many people who knew what it means to struggle. As she knew well what struggle can do to a person. Our mother had a strong heart, and she loved her music. Mama’s favorite song “Hole in The Wall” was a song that would get her up out of her wheelchair, “dancing a jig”. Oh, how our mother loved to dance. Playing all her favorite oldies or “Ol’Folks” songs was her favorite pastime.
Mama you are most definitely loved, most definitely missed. I know many of us will miss her smile, you know that smile that could light up any cathedral, let alone any room. She was our best friend who we would laugh with, our confidant who we’d tell our worst to, our nurse to help heal our wounds or offer her shoulder and ear. Ms. Margarita “Motha Sista” Dozier is and will forever be the best matriarch this family has ever had the pleasure of having known. A woman who is the most giving, selfless heroine to ever walk the face of this earth!
She… will be forever missed. Ms. Margarita, if you allow me, I speak for all of us “We Adored You!”
She leaves behind three generations of family: Three beautiful children, Lamont Childress, Salau Bukari, and her only daughter Kahdijah Kahali. All her 18 grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Nama”: Shahar Dudley, Sharlene Martin, Nafisa Jefferson, Joseph Childress, Noah Bukari, Dashawn Childress, Jahfear “Junior” Bukari, Emmanuel Landry Mashiah Landry, Serina Childress, Asha Bukari, Lamont Childress Jr., CyRita Childress-Saulter, Legend Bukari, Messiah Bukari, Jenifer Jones, Doryanna Ward, and Jacques Taylor.
She also had seven great grandchildren, Jerimiah Landry,Elijah Gaffney, Lauren Dudley, Keimoni Dudley, Myles Dudley, Riley and Jayden Childress, three sisters, a brother, and her husband Anthony McMclain. Our mother was a great inspiration. She had many loved ones and close friends who loved her as well. She was the mother of the church she attended Fresh Oil Ministries. She loved the Lord and did not play about her God!! If you knew Nama, then you know that she loved to praise her Almighty God. You could often catch her on any day singing Anthony Brown, Tamela Mann, Tasha Cobbs, Jonathan Rynolds, or any of the gospel greats.
Yes, she absolutely loved the Lord with all her soul. She believed in “a better day is sure to come” so she lived her life just like that. Always having a kind word, or offering hope to the lowly heart, our mother always had a positive outlook on life, she taught me to always see the silver lining in things. Mom, we celebrate you!
Our Angel has gone on to get her wings. Reminding us to smile always, laugh out loud often, to cry if need be… most of all to keep on P.U.S.H.ing (Pray Until Something happens). So don’t spend time being sad caught up in the blues. Try not to get caught up in the shouldah, couldah, wouldah’s. Know that she is smiling down on each one of us knowing that we are definitely doing the best we can.
This is a glorious day. She no longer has pain, sorrow, fears, or uncertainty. Nama is with her baby boy Micheal Wesley, her mother, Godmother, her first love, and so many others have been there to welcome her home. So, in this celebration of our beloved mother Margarita Dozier, we must dance, sing, throw a party and celebrate her peace.
Still, she will be eternally missed.
Let Me Not Miss You
Jesus please don’t let me miss you
If only I knew that it, was you
I would have been grateful going through
I thought it was the enemy coming to destroy me
I called on your name, still nothing changed
Day after day I pressed to pray
I wanted the hinders
To move out of my way
If only I knew it, was you
I would have surrendered
Said, “yes Lord” too
Oh Lord, my Lord please don’t let me miss you
Lord, I ask if you will allow me to just see
That it is I,
You are setting free
You are the potter
I am the clay
Mold me
Shape me
Teach me your way
Grow me
Show me
Lord, you take the honor
I give you all the glory
For all that you allow me to pass through
I now know you were drawing me closer to you
Lord, please forgive me
Once again please here my cry
Open my heart
Open my eyes
Let me hear, let me recognize
It is by your love that I am chastised
It is your grace that covers me
The enemy has no power less you say
Let it be
To you I have surrendered my life I trust you
Most assuredly
For I know that you know
What is best for me
Along life’s journey I seek your truth
Give me the strength to stand as I wait in you
Jesus my Lord
As you grow me up
I pray
Let me not miss you
