Lillie Ida Medlock Horton was born to Issac “Papa Ike” and Georgia “Mama Georgia” Medlock on August 18, 1928. Lillie was born breech, three hours later after her twin brother, Willie Joe Medlock.
Lillie attended grade school in Coolidge, Texas, while balancing household chores to assist the family. Although she did not receive her high school diploma, she later completed courses at McLennan Community College and obtained her GED. Lillie accepted Christ at an early age and attended St. James Methodist Church of Mart, Texas. At a later age, Lillie met the love of her life, Emmett, and joined St. Mary’s Baptist Church of Mart, TX, where she faithfully served as a Sunday school youth teacher, Church Secretary, Senior Mission member, and sang in the choir, leading her favorite song, “He Touched Me”. Lillie’s favorite hobby was sewing and was well-known as a renowned seamstress and fashionista. She worked for several clothing factories, including the Reebok factory in Waco, Texas. She also enjoyed cooking some of her favorite dishes such as salmon croquettes, sock-it-to-me cakes, peach cobblers, homemade french fries, and fried potatoes and onions.
Above all, she was devoted to God, her family, and her community. Lillie was always there to brighten the lives of others and greeted many with her infectious smile and welcoming bear hugs. Lillie Horton entered into eternal rest on November 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
