Julia Ann Burton (Julie) born Julia Ann Kelt on February 14, 1953, to Julius J. Kelt and Annette Montfort Kelt in Brazos County Texas, she departed this earthly world for her eternal rest on September 30, 2024.
Julie and her family moved around a lot due to her father’s occupation, they eventually settled in New Market, Alabama, where she graduated from Buckhorn High School. After high school she joined the United States Army, where she proudly served her country during the Vietnam War. After her active-duty service, she continued working for the United States Government as a civilian. She worked on Redstone Arsenal, we well as for the Department of Veteran Affairs where she retired after 25 years of service.
While living in Alabama she met and married the late Ernest Burton Jr, they had two beautiful daughters together, Elizabeth and Katherine. He had three beautiful daughters from a previous marriage, Cassandra (Faye), Wanda, and Pamela (Pam) that Julieloved and accepted as her own.
Eventually Julie returned to Texas where she lived out the rest of her days.
Julie had a helping heart and even when she struggled herself, she found a way to help others. She volunteered with the Girls Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity and several other places throughout her life. As she became physically unable to volunteer, she began to make financial contributions to causes such as the Wounded Warrior Project, America’s Vet Dogs, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Veterans of Foreign Wars and many other causes that were dear to her heart.
Julie leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother Annette Kelt of Waco, Tx, her sister Genie Kelt of Huntsville, Al, her daughters Elizabeth Burton of Waco, Tx, Katherine(Taurean)Burton Carter of Huntsville, Al. Four grandchildren Aaron Giles Jr, Kierra Giles, Kamaria Carter all of Huntsville, Al and Trenton Adams-Burton of Waco, Tx. Her bonus daughters Wanda Jefferson and Pamela Burton both of Nashville, Tn. She also leaves seven bonus grandchildren in Nashville, Tn, many great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and her dog Joker, that she affectionately called her “big ugly baby” that will all miss her dearly.
Julie was preceded in death by her father Julius “Bud” Kelt, her grandparents, her brother Jerry Kelt, her bonus daughter Cassandra Faye Burton as well as many other loved ones.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the calls, visits, thoughts, prayers and words of encouragement during this most difficult time.
My sister and I would especially like to thank Community Health Care Hospice for the amazing care your staff provided to our mom, she cherished each and everyone of you that she encountered.
