Hugo Saenz Obituary

In Loving Memory: Hugo Saenz

March 2, 1944 – February 8, 2026

Hugo Saenz, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2026. He was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico on March 2, 1944, and moved to Texas in 1951.  As a young man, he attended schools in McAllen, TX. He joined the U.S. Army in June of 1964 and continued service for over 20 years.  Hugo lived a life defined by service—to his country, his career, and his family.

Hugo’s commitment to the United States was a cornerstone of his identity. He officially became a naturalized citizen on January 22, 1981, a milestone that reflected his deep connection to the nation he defended. Throughout his military career, including a tour in Vietnam, he demonstrated exceptional bravery and leadership. His service took him far from home including 7 years of foreign service. He earned a distinguished array of decorations including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Following his retirement from the military, Hugo transitioned his expertise in coordination and precision to the private sector by working in logistics for Raytheon Technical Services Company in Germany. He returned to the states in 2016.

Throughout his life, Hugo was an avid reader and craftsman. He could fix or build just about anything.  He enjoyed quiet time in his shop working on his latest project and listening to Mexican music.

He is survived by his ex-wife; Luz Alma Saenz (nee Chapa) who he was married to for over 20 years and lived with in his final years, his children Yvonne Saenz Frate (Nicholas), Yvette Saenz Milner (John) and Marco Saenz. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amanda Feeney, Alex Frate, J.T. Milner, Olivia Milner, Edgar Guiterrez, and Antonio Saenz. He leaves behind five great-grandchildren.

Hugo was the son of the late Atilano and Esther Saenz and was preceded in death by his brother, Hector Saenz. His surviving siblings include Atilano Saenz, Jr., Esther Molina, and Homero Saenz. His family will carry forward his memory.
