Hazel Silmon Obituary

Life Reflections

Hazel Silmon, a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and friend, transitioned from this life to her eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, hard work, and unconditional love. Born on October 10, 1948, in Coolidge, Texas to Lonnie and Cardell Silmon, Hazel was one of thirteen children in a vibrant and bustling household.

Her spiritual journey began early in life when she dedicated herself to Christ and was baptized at Mustang Baptist Church in Prairie Hill, Texas. This foundation of faith guided her throughout her years, shaping her into the resilient woman her family admired. After graduating from school in Coolidge, Hazel moved to Dallas before making Waco, Texas her permanent home where she established her independence and a career that defied conventions of the time. For many years, she worked as a welder at J&K Saw, a testament to her work ethic and her ability to master a demanding trade.

Hazel's greatest masterpiece, however, was her family. She was the proud mother of James, Tyrone, and Christine Silmon. To her children, she was the ultimate provider and nurturer. She was the silent force who moved mountains to ensure her children had every opportunity, working tirelessly to provide a life of security and comfort.

Hazel was an avid cook and baker who found joy in gospel, blues, and R&B music. She loved a good game of dominoes or spades, took pride in caring for her flowers and plants, and found special delight in watching birds, especially her beloved cardinals; always making sure that they were well fed. Whether she was working on crossword puzzles, enjoying a good western, or surrounded by the laughter of her family, Hazel embraced life's simple pleasures with warmth and joy.

In her later years, Hazel retired to Aubrey, Texas, where she enjoyed the peace of her well-earned rest and the company of those she held dear.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Cardell; her beloved son, James Silmon; and five of her siblings: Mary Dell Walker, Diane Silmon, Lonnie Silmon Jr., David Silmon, and Henry Lee Silmon.

Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her surviving children, Christine Silmon of Aubrey, Texas, and Tyrone Silmon and his wife, Trina Silmon of Midlothian, Texas; her grand-children Tyrone Jr. and Tytiana Silmon; seven remaining siblings, and a host of extended family members and friends who were touched by her steady hand and warm heart.

Hazel Silmon taught those around her that to nurture is to be patient and present. Though she is no longer with us in person, her voice remains the first one her children hear in their hearts, and her strength remains the foundation upon which they stand.
